If your vehicle's transfer case stops working, then you may find yourself stuck in the mud. A transfer case is a mechanical device for four-wheel drive vehicles that transfers power from the transmission to the axles. This is usually accomplished by the vehicle's operator flipping a switch that engages a chain inside the transfer case. All-wheel drive vehicles also use transfer cases, but unlike four-wheel drive vehicles, they are not capable of operating in two-wheel drive.
